About Spice Board India
Spice Board of India was established on 26th February under the Act called as Spice Board Act 1986 with the combination of the Spices Export promotion Council and Erstwhile Cardamom Board. It is an autonomous body and is one of the five Commodity Boards operating under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The main responsibility of the Spice Board is to export promotion of 52 scheduled spices and the growth of small and large size cardamom. The main function the board is to examine of small and large cardamom in domestic marketing.
The headquarters of Spice Board India is located at Kochi. The present Chairman of the Board is Dr. Jayathilak IAS. India produces a large number of spices. Almost all the types of spices grow in India, as a consequence of a diverse range of climate. Majority states and union territories of India grow one or other spices. The quality policy of the board makes sure that the spices which are being exported from India confirm the hygiene, commercial and chemical standard. When it comes to the certification approximately 109 spices are seen in the ISO list.
The research wing of Spices board is the Indian Cardamom Research Institute. The main objective of this institute is for growing a large number of cardamom which would be a great help for the spice farmers to get the net income by exporting it in a surplus amount.
